In the underbrush just north of the CSX tracks at this point are the remains of Cassville Station of the old Western & Atlantic Railroad. During the antebellum and Civil War era, Cassville was one of the largest cities in northern Georgia. The town suffered a good deal of destruction during the war, and afterwards the county seat was moved south to what is now Cartersville.
