Tutrakan is situated 60 km from the regional centers Ruse and Silistra which accounts for its being a distinct town center with adjoining territory. The town is located in the westernmost part of Danubian Dobrudja, climbing up a steep hill. The town is terraced on the slope consisting of two landslide terraces. It is part of a high-level plateau to south of the river Danube. It is here that the river makes a majestic bend and at sunset dazzles the spectator with a memorable view of the sun dipping into the calm waters to rest.
