pub / public house, historical building
The Command House is a popular night-time scene, known to all residents of Medway from Rainham to Strood.
Constructed in the Queen Anne style, this former Gun Wharf Storekeeper's House is of both architectural and historical interest, and is a rare example of a surviving ordnance building. The Storekeeper controlled the ordnance depot and was in a position to amass personal wealth by manipulating government contracts. He was provided with his own house at the site and its quality, including the attached stables, is indicative of the status of this public official.
