  • I would like to say as a former employee of the austin plant from 1972-1980 how disapointed i am that our heritage is lost . It would appear that it became necessary to get rid of all the original site. you think that at least Birmingham could have kept the original Austin Works as a museum at least. Instead we spend vasts amount of money on the development of the city centre and may i say what for, if there is no industry. Perhaps Lord Austin would turn in his grave if he could see the devastation of that site now. We must remember what these works provided, thousands of men and women with work, what great days they will never return thanks to past governments, poor management and poor planning.
