I’m at Freen’s court in Herefordshire near the border between England and Wales.
In 1990, an aerial photographer took this picture of a field in the valley down there. Look at these incredible parch marks.
But what got the locals really excited was that 1200 years ago this whole area was ruled by Offa, the greatest King in Britain. He gave his name to Offa’s Dyke, which was built to keep the Welsh out of his ancient kingdom of Murcia, and he was rumoured to have a palace near here.
So could this be the remains of Offa’s palace? Time Team have got just three days to find out.
