  • Lafayette's downtown is beautiful, but I think it needs bigger and prettier buildings.
  • Lafayette Parish needs to get it together and realize how behind our infrastructure and roads and everything that has been the same for almost 40 years, is. I recently visited Mobile, Alabama. My last visit was in April and in 3 months, they've repaved a bunch of roads, renovated their sewage systems, built new roads, demolished abandoned buildings and a lot of other necessities. Lafayette has only re-striped a few main roads, and expanded a couple more roads. Has anyone entered Lafayette from the I-10 Evangeline Thruway exit recently? I don't think when visitors come to our wonderful city get the right idea while they're bumping along Evangeline and noticing how dishonored the historic part of Lafayette is. Every time my family from Mobile visits, they complain about the roads and end up having to do maintenance to their cars when they return to their home. I'm sure when travelers come through Lafayette on I-10, they must think, "Let's wait until we get to the next city to stop and eat, this doesn't look safe." I-10 is ravished through our hub. The new Louisiana Avenue exit is the most unspoiled of our 4 exits. Camellia Avenue is the smoothest road, and I wonder why. I commute on Verot School Rd. from East Milton to go everywhere I need to go and my "low tire pressure" gauge in my car lights up after approx. 3 months of replacing my tires. I know the Chamber has money, they just aren't using it wisely enough. The citizens of this parish don't get their money's worth, that's for sure.
