The Sherry-Netherland Hotel, in Lenox Hill, Manhattan, New York City, was designed c. 1926 by Schultze & Weaver with Buchman & Kahn as associated architects. It was founded by Louis Sherry and Waldorf-Astoria manager Lucius Boomer. The upper floors suffered a fire during construction. Above a four-storey travertine base, it rises as a plot-sized dark brown brick mass until the 24th floor, when it is setback and turned into a narrow tower that is topped by a Chateau-influenced spire-like top. The 560ft building has 156 units on 40 floors and a restaurant, and it became a co-op in 1954. The hotel, designed in the Neo-Gothic style, is located within the Upper East Side Historic District. Neo-Romanesque/ Renaissance style with Gothic touches, including griffons guarding the front entrance. The lobby was modeled after the Vatican Library with murals by Joseph Aruta. It also includes friezes salvaged from Cornelius Vanderbilt's mansion. The interiors underwent a recent renovation by EverGreene Architectural Arts.
