This Spanish-Colonial baroque building was designed by architect Carleton M. Winslow for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. It was originally known as the Varied Industries and Food Products Building until 1936, when the name was changed to the Food and Beverage Building. During WWI, it was used as a barracks and post office for sailors, and later during WWII, to house Red Cross personnel and US Naval Hospital patients. The building was dedicated on November 14, 1971 with its new Casa del Prado name after several years of rennovations including replacing the original plaster and hemp with more durable concrete and stucco.
