In this vicinity is the second location of Ruth, buried under Ruth Pit's enormous tailings pile. The first location of Ruth, a tent and shanty town, was settled in 1903 a short distance away. By 1910, it had moved to this location more commonly known as Old Ruth. By 1954, the buildings of Old Ruth had been moved to the New Ruth site or nearby Ely due to Deep Ruth Shaft's mining operations being located directly under Old Ruth.
