Formerly two separate pits, they were later merged into one. Tripp Pit was originally the site of the Morris-Brooks claims' underground workings. Consolidated Coppermines began open-pit mining in 1950. The underground Veteran mine started shipping ore in 1908 along with the Ruth and Copper Flat mines. Mining ceased in 1914 with the outbreak of WWI and resumed in the 1950s when Kennecott took over operations. It was later converted to an open-pit mine and merged with Tripp Pit.
