Thevoorani is the oldest tank (pond) of Ilayangudi. The name derives from Therar (Buddhist Monk). Once Ilayangudi was a Samanam & Buddhist town before Islam was introduced in 7th century. Thevoorani has INPT Thozhugai Medai Pallivasal and Temple (once Samana Temple)in its bank.
