Also known as Hekate's Island.

The goddess Hekate originated in the east, in what is now western Turkey, around Miletus, and to the northwest in ancient Thrace. As her cult moved west, she became less a protectoress deity and more associated with dark magic. The Mycenaeans adopted her as one of their own, and numerous cult centers grew up around the Greek mainland. One myth says that this island was the physical incarnation of Hekate's mother, Asteria, who was the sister of Leto, Apollo's mother. That would probably explain why she became associated with a place so close to Apollo's sacred island of Delos.
