Also known, since c. 1775, as Gee's Point.
Gee's Point is named for Captain Cornelius Gee (1735-1810). Captain Gee and his partner Jacob Nelson operated packet boats on the Hudson in the mid to late 1700s. The East Point on Constitution Island was Nelson's Point. The West Point was Gee's Point. During the Revolutionary War Captain Gee and his sloop The Federal, kept the garrison at Fort Clinton provisioned.
