Historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), where it is also designated a National Historic Landmark District. The district encompasses the factory, worker housing, and owner residences associated with Samuel Colt (1814-1862), one of the nation's early innovators in precision manufacturing and the production of firearms. It was the site of important contributions to manufacturing technology made by Colt and the industrial enterprise he created. The district also entirely contains the "Colt Industrial District", a separately-listed area that focuses on the actual manufacturing complex. Coltsville, as of 2020, is also in the process of becoming a National Historic Park.
