house, mansion / manor house / villa, Grade I Listed (UK)
The manor dates from the 13th century but the site is thought to go back as far as the 12th century. This is a rare surviving Knights Templar manor at Strood, just across the river Medway from Rochester Castle.
It was given to the Knights Templar by Henry II around 1159 and it has changed shape just as much as it changed hands through the course of time. A Grade I listed building.
