Construction began in 1901 and it was opened in 1904 by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Sir Hallewell Rogers. Originally known as New Bridge, it crosses the Warwick & Birmingham Canal and the Birmingham & Oxford Railway with a span of 200 metres to join Jenkins Street and Kendal Road.
