Originally John's Prime Rib, a steak house-style restaurant. It opened in 1974 and closed on September 30, 2011. It was named after its original owner, John (Jack) Chrones (1927-2009), who worked in the restaurant business for decades. He worked first in his father's restaurant, The Gem Cafe, and then established his own restaurants: Jay Dees in 1954, Jack's Food House in 1971, and finally John's Prime Rib in 1974.

His son, Jim Chrones, took over the business in 2002 when Jack retired. He sold the restaurant in 2011 to the Edmonton-based Hudsons Canadian Taphouse.
