Former site of Herb's Place (later Montee's) site of many a fun time during a misspent youth. After the "Whip to White" and "Zip to Zap" episodes, we planned to "Drink Herb Dry". I and a few hundred of my friends descended on the small bar but the crafty owner (Herb Hickle) filled a large stock tank with ice and many, many cases of brew. We did not succeed in drinking the bar dry but a good time was had by all.

  • Herb Hickle was my Great Uncle and I have some vivid memories of visiting Herb's Place in Broadland. I thought it was the coolest thing that you could wait on people out front and then go through a curtain into the back room, where you lived. My Mom, Dad, Grandmother Mima(Herb's sister)and myself visited one weekend and I remember Uncle Herb made buffalo meatloaf, one of the most exotic dishes I had ever experienced. He was always very kind to me and as with many relatives who have passed on, I wish I had been a little older, a little wiser and listened more closely.
