Diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Pakistan was established in 1957. Malaysia-Pakistan relations are usually described as being friendly and close. Its fraternal bonds of friendship emanate from the common religious heritage as well as shared perceptions and aspirations as developing countries. Malaysian and Pakistani armed forces personnel had been attending major military exercises as well as exchanging officers for training conducted in both countries. Pakistan is also one of the primary sources of foreign labour for Malaysia, with a significant increase in workers, taking their numbers to 100,000 in December 2010.
