The sainty devotees of Shiva are known as Nayanmar(Nayanar)According to the Tamil hagiography PERIYAPURANAM There are 63 NAYANARS.Periyapuranam narrates the history of each of these Nayanars.Cheraman Perumal Nayanar,great friend of Sundaramoorthy Nayanar, was born(8th century) in Kodunkolur(present Kodungallore,Trichur Dt).It was the capital city of Malai Nadu (Present Kerala) This temple is related to Cheraman Perumal Nayanar,and is at a distance of about 10 Km from present Kodungallore town and 14 Km from present Thiruvanchikulam Mahadeva Temple.
