-This cemetery was under the auspices of South Bend United Methodist Church which was disbanded in 1985. The church was located approx 6 blocks to the southwest at 850 Mcwilliams Road, SW 30315. Records for the final 10-years of the disbanded church are here: www.pitts.emory.edu/Archives/text/rg034.html . Trustees of the North Georgia Conference resolved to turn the property over to the Korean Church of Atlanta, which met there until 1995. This cemetery fell into sad disrepair and suffered being used as a actual dump for more than a decade. The forest had overgrown most of the graves. A few family plots were minimally maintained. In year 2007, various decendants began to rehabilitate family plots & the cemetery as a whole ( www.ajc.com/news/lifestyles/family-transforms-1800s-cem... ). As of summer 2012 the grounds are cleared, fenced, and maintained. 225 individual graves are recorded and may be accessed here: www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=230078...

  • This cemetery was not associated with a Baptist Church. It was associated with the "South Bend METHODIST Church". My husband's family attented this church, and many family members are buried at "South Bend Cemetery"
  • As of 2012 the cemetery is correctly fenced and the forest overgrowth has been removed. The thousands of discarded automobile tires have been removed and the discarded furniture & houshold debris have been hauled away. Grass is growing and the grounds are cared for.
  • We have various groups of young people volunteering at the cemetery. If you are interested in helping, call Doug at 404-310-5992
