Scripps Ranch, California, is an inland community within the City of San Diego. It is located east of Interstate 15 and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (formerly Naval Air Station Miramar -the original home of Top Gun) and southeast of Mira Mesa.

Scripps Ranch was originally a 400 acre (1.6 km²) ranch purchased by Ellen Browning Scripps for $5,000. Her half-brother, newspaper man E. W. Scripps acquired 2,100 acres (8.5 km²) on which to build his winter home, as he believed the dry Mediterranean climate would help keep him healthy. The Scripps Ranch Civic Association provides a more complete history of the E. W. Scripps era. During the late 1970s the Ranch was sold to developers who built an upscale community of ranch style homes, over 300 of which were burned in the 2003 Cedar Fire. Over 75% of these homes have since been rebuilt and the original residents have since returned.
