Head office of SaskEnergy, the publicly owned natural gas utility. It was created in 1988 to separate that responsibility from SaskPower, which had been then provincial authority for natural gas distribution since 1951.

The building was first built for SaskOil, the province's publicly owned petroleum exploration and production company. The majority was sold off to private interests in 1986 and renamed Wascana Energy. The remaining government holdings were sold in 1997 when Wascana Energy was acquired by Canadian Occidental Petroleum. The present-day company is called Nexen Canada, following a buyout of the American interests of Occidental Petroleum.
