Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru. It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, on the central coast of Perú. Lima ranks as the nineteenth most populous city in the world with an estimated population of 9.2 million for the metropolitan area as of 2005.

The city was founded on January 18, 1535 by the spanish "conquistador" Francisco Pizarro as "Ciudad de los Reyes" (City of the Kings) and designated as the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru.
