Lockerbie Square Historic District is one of Indiana’s oldest platted neighborhoods! The neighborhood was platted in 1847 by Janet McQuat. She named the neighborhood after her Scottish father, George Lockerbie. Today, Lockerbie Square is part of the National Register of Historic Places.

Italianate, Federal, Queen Anne and quaint cottages are just a few of the eclectic mix of architecture found in historic Lockerbie— all dating back to the 1850’s to 1880’s. The homes can be found along quiet streets with beautiful gardens and lush landscaping. The famous poet James Whitcomb Riley once described the area as “nestled away from the noise of the city and the heat of the day.” The James Whitcomb Riley Home is located on the 500 block of Lockerbie and today is available for tours.
