landmark, interesting place
The Oliver Typewriter was headquartered in this 7-story building until 1959. The building was completed in 1907. It now provides additional office space and dressing rooms for the Oriental Theater.
Constructed as the corporate headquarters, this building is an excellent representation of the principles of the Chicago School of architecture.
The building's internal steel frame is clearly expressed on the facade, which is further enhanced by cast-iron ornament that subtly advertises the company's name and product. The top two floors were added in 1920 by the original architects.
