Stella Maris Church (Sliema)

The Stella Maris Church (Our Lady Star of the Sea) is the mother parish of the town of Sliema, It is dedicated to Our Lady Star of the Sea (in latin Stella Maris) the patroness of the town. The Church was built in 1853 and in the 1875 it was enlarged to accommodate the growing population. In 1878 the church was elevated to the rank of a parish church with an ecclesiastical jursdiction that included besides Sliema also Gzira. The Parish festa is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of August.
