Jefferson Elementary School (Fargo, North Dakota)

USA / North Dakota / Fargo / Fargo, North Dakota

Jefferson Elementary is named after President Thomas Jefferson. The school was established in 1921 in the central portion of the city of Fargo, North Dakota. School was held in two portable buildings while the new building was being constructed. There were few houses around the school then. It was almost like going to a country school. It was an elementary school. Jefferson opened in April 1923, with 300 students in six grades – although the school had room for more than 600 pupils. The platoon system was touted as more economical because all of the school’s rooms would be in use all of the time, and it would better prepare students for the future by offering a wider variety of subjects. After a new Jefferson School was built in 2007, the old school was razed. The new school sits to the west of the old one on the same block. The old Jefferson School was located where the Jefferson Elementary Rink is now.
