site - to be removed, lake, railway, railway accident site (derailment, collision, etc), interesting place
Silver Lake curve, off CSX tracks, is where northbound Amtrak train #52, derailed April 18, 2002. Four people died, 143 were injured. Much of the train was destroyed.
The NTSB reported that the tracks had not been installed/maintained properly by CSX. The agency's initial findings revealed that the special ECP brakes on this train were neither cabled together nor functioning. The post accident testing of the ECP system suggested, that over half of the impact force, might have been mitigated, presumably, potentially, saving the lives lost.
