Ruth Paine House Museum (Irving, Texas)

USA / Texas / Irving / Irving, Texas / West Fifth Street, 2515
museum, house, place with historical importance, interesting place

This is the house where Lee Harvey Oswald slept on November 21, 1963. He was seen leaving the residence the following morning with a rifle by a neighbor. The house has been converted to a museum which is planned to open on November 6th.

The house was purchased by the City of Irving in 2008. Since then it has undergone restorative construction to return the home to it's historical look, including hand-picked furnishings indicative of the 1960's era. The museum examines the people and events associated with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy that occurred in the home.

The museum also examines Ruth Paine's involvement in the Irving area's civic and social movements of the time. As part of the West Irving Improvement Association civil rights group, Paine was instrumental in the annexation of the Bear Creek community by Irving, thus gaining vital municipal services for its citizens.
