Selim District Capital, Kars Province.
The town has a population of 5,084 people, mostly Turks, with a Kurdish minority.

History:

From 1870s to 1920s was inhabited by Russian Spiritual Christians (Molokane and Pryguny). When Russians left, was mostly occupied by Kurdish refugees from Iraq. From 1904-1912, some migrated to California then Arizona, where their congregation merged with others to form a larger congregations. Most Molokane formed congregation in San Francisco, California, on Potrero Hill. Most Pryguny were in Arizona, near Tolleson, but in 1920s most moved Los Angeles. After 1928, many Pryguny transformed into various Dukh-i-zhinik faiths.
