Khlat was Armenian city at northwestern shore of lake Van in Historical Armenia. During the Armenian genocide population of Khlat was massacred by Turks. Since the 1920 Khlat was renamed to Ahlat. Now Ahlat is a District Capital of Bitlis Province in Turkey, with no remains of Armenian churches and cross-stone field around it.
The town has a population of 21,122, and the district 37,358, mosly turkish people
