The Pillsbury bridge was originally built as a railroad bridge with a rotating mechanism to allow riverboats to pass, however the mechanism was never used. The bridge was said to have blocked water in the flood of 1997, and was consiquently removed, with the pier and rotating mechanism all that remains.
