3-story hostel originally completed in the mid-1800s as a row of townhouses, each two bays wide. Of the 13 original houses, 12 were incorporated into a hotel in 1936 (261 West 20th, at the western end of the row, was not included and retains much more closely its original appearance). The other buildings were joined and given a new unified facade of beige-painted brick, simplified windows, and a stone coping along the roof line. At the ground floor there are individual doorways at each structure, all framed by sidelights and transoms. Above each door is a modern light fixture and an octagonal or circular window, the frames of which are painted blue, along with the doorways. Next to each doorway is a basement areaway with blue-painted iron fence, and another regular square-headed window, with a blue-painted stone sill. The main entrance to the hostel is just right of center, with a decorative wrought-iron gate, and a canvas canopy extending over the sidewalk. Five shorter rear buildings are also incorporated into the property. It has been operating as the Chelsea International Hostel since 1993.
