The current building is the third station to be built in Polegate and was completed in 1986, and opened by Ian Gow in 1987. This station is situated on the site of the first one which was closed in 1881 when the second station was opened about 440 yards towards Eastbourne and had four platforms. The former station building has now been converted into a pub/restaurant and at track level there are some sections of the platforms.
