MIT Stata Center, one of the few MIT buildings that MIT students know by name. Home of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy (Course 24), and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The Ray and Maria Stata Center is an academic complex designed by Frank Gehry for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. The architecture is deliberately odd in some sections. The building opened in spring 2004. Funding for this project was provided by Ray and Maria Stata, Bill Gates and Alexander Dreyfoos. Consequently, the west tower is called the Dreyfoos Building, and the east tower is called the Gates building, but they are locally called "Minas Tirith" and "Minas Morgul", respectively.
