Killian Court (called the Great Court until 1974) is the open space in front of the famous big dome at the MIT campus. This is where the convocation takes place. Ben Bernanke was the speaker at the June 2006 graduation.
The original plans for Killian Court included a massive statue of Athena near the southern end (scrapped for lack of money), and the court was originally a paved space rather than the grassy field it is today. The transition took place in the late 1920s.
