Kemmannu is reigning on the Western Coast touching the Arabian Sea, long stretch of Suvarna River
to the North, the beautiful sunrise from
the palm gardens of Kallinpur in the East, the friendly neighbor Badanidyoor in the South.
Kemmannu has been historically a centre for fishing for the fishermen from surrounding region as far from Baikady, Kallainpur and Uppur. They have to depend mainly on Arabian Sea and surrounding rivers to spread their long fishing nets for the catch, their livelihood, their daily bread earner. The scene of these fishermen dragging their nets, yelling and shouting in rhythmic song like sequences is worth watching through out the year except for few months in rainy season.
Today's Kemmannu is a blend of the old and new, full of greenery, natural beauty and well known for coconut plantation. We, natives of Kemmannu are proud to say that we belong to this place. Words are not enough to describe the beauty of this place. Kemmannu is an epic poem created by God. Beautiful palm ranges trying to reach the sky are sites that please the human mind and give an experience of heavenly pleasure. The morning sun rising over here appears as if it is sprinkling rose water all over. Chirping birds gently awaken oneself and all of this makes really a wonderful beginning for the beautiful day.
Kemmannu is one of the most enchanting place to visit. With its long beach, Bengre – a place where river merges with the sea, various small islands (famously well known as Kudrus), vast area of paddy cultivation and coconut plantations is not less than any other tourist place.
Kemmannu is also known for its interesting year round cultural and religious events like church feast, Kambla, Ykshagana, Nema etc. These events give a brotherly feeling, belongingness, togetherness among the various religious communities that live closely. This proves Kemmannu as a place of mixed culture and multi community society.
It is the common belief that the present name Kemmannu is derived from the colour of its soil that is red at market place (KEMPU- MANNU). Her earlier name was Sunnada Goodu, Kolambe or Thonse.
The people of Kemmannu who were traditionally engaged in agricultural activities have reached all the corners of the world from America to Australia, England to New Zealand, Japan, Middle East and African countries. They all are regarded as blooming flowers of our dear Kemmannu spreading fragrance and the fame of their motherland. We are sure wherever they are, they will be proud to call themselves as the beloved children of mother kemmannu.
