Saint Mary's Islands

India / Karnataka / Malpe / St.Mary's Island
 island, tourist attraction

Vasco Da Gama christened the island as "Santa Maria" in 1498 and later reached Calicut.

The beaches here are pristine and unique. This island consists of beautiful beaches and crystalized basalt rock formations. The rock formations are one of rarely found in the world. Eastern beach boasts of virgin sands, western beach is entirely made of sea shells. Uninhabited, the rocks have exactly circular holes, due to unknown flabbergasting reasons.

The island lacks attention from local state tourism. It is largely neglected from transforming into a popular tourist destination. You can reach here from Malpe Beach, Udupi by 30 minutes boat ride.
