  • I was here with the DLI (Durham Light Infantry) Fond memories.
  • I was in the Raoc and I got,14 days nick we didn't have a nick of our own and the town guardroom was at Wavell Bks So I was sent there the Manchester regt was stationed there then the Lincolnshere regt was next door in Brooks Bks this w in 1955 Years later I met Bernard Manning at a dinner and he told me he was in that barracks then I've got great memories of Berlin and I thought it was a great posting I was there almost two years and I consider myself dead lucky to have been sent there I came home in 1956 in June In fact I wa in the Olympic Stadium in the May in 1956 when England Beat West Germany and the great Duncan Edwards scored a thirty harder the German goalkeeper could only watch as it flew past him into the net !
  • I was posted to Wavell Barracks with the Welsh Guards in June 1952, during that time we did guard on Spandau Prison, among other duties. I have just returned from a visit to Spandau (memory lane) and was saddened to see the barracks in such a state of disrepair, it is now unoccupied......H. Ellis. May 2012.
  • Hi Ellis, I was in Wavell Barracks in 1958/59. I did guard on Spandau Prison also on train guard, just got back from Berlin,tried to find Wavell Barracks but no luck, I think we must have gone to the wrong place, but there again everything has changed that much, if possible could you give me the correct address, then I can contact a pal of mine over there to get me some photo's. my email is ( smudge@mcb.net ) Many thanks Eric.

  • i was posted at wavell in 1977to79 with my regt the 1 st batt welsh guards and done spandau border and train guards but wot night life and i remember rocking horse my job was a ferret driver great times and local girls

  • I was in Wavell Barracks 1959-1960 1st Bat York & Lancaster Regt ,in D company Pioneers ,brilliant time, I was driver for them so I got to see a fair amount of BERLIN ,had to go into the RUSSIAN SECTOR to take certain officers when I was on duty driver call also went to see the BELSON CONSENTRATION .CAMP . Lot of good memories spent at Wavell. Rodgers L F
