USA / California / San Diego / San Diego, California
crash site, historical layer / disappeared object, aircraft crash site

PSA Flight 182, a Pacific Southwest Airlines commercial flight, crashed into this North Park neighborhood at the intersection of Dwight and Nile, killing all 135 on board, plus the two men on board a small aircraft that has just collided with the jet, and seven persons on the ground, on September 25, 1978.
At 9:01 a.m. on that day, N533PS, a Boeing 727-214 designated as PSA Flight 182, was over the North Park neighborhood of San Diego, beginning its final approach into Lindbergh Field. A Cessna 172, flown by two licensed pilots, was overtaken by the faster jetliner and was struck by the right wing of the Boeing 727, sending both aircraft crashing into the neighborhood below. Today, there is little to see of the crash, just a few homes that don't match the craftsman architecture of the neighborhood.

Comments

  • There is one tree on Dwight Street that still carries the blackened scars of that day.
  • I was at Montgomery Ward in Mission Valley shopping for a lawnmower or something to that effect when the crash happened. I heard a somewhat of a muffled "boom"; couldn't really tell what it was at first, then someone came on the store intercom and said "Ladies and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please. That sound you just heard was a plane crash. The plane crashed in North Park." When I went outside, you could look over the hill and see the plume of smoke in the sky. I'll never forget it.
  • my mum die in this crash i put a flowr on that tree every annual
