Residence designed c. 1920 in the Colonial Revival style by Electus D. Litchfield for Samuel Roosevelt Outerbridge {financier, industrialist}. Outerbridge served as a partner of A.E. Outerbridge & Co. and director of Homasote Co. He also served as a trustee of the Village of Centre Island.
Upon graduating from Harvard in 1897, Samuel Roosevelt Outerbridge joined his father's firm, Adolphus Emilius Outerbridge & Co. the US agents for the Quebec Steamship Line. Mr. Outerbridge's maternal grandfather was the prosperous hardware merchant Samuel Roosevelt, son of Nicholas Roosevelt. He married Amie Willets daughter of Joseph C. Willetts of Skaneateles.
After Amie Outerbridge's death in 1956 the property was purchased by Academy, Tony and Golden Globe Award winning lyricist Alan Jay Lerner (My Fair Lady, Brigadoon, Camelot, Gigi, An American in Paris, The Little Prince).
The home was subsequently owned by Gordon A. Robbins and his wife Claude. Robbins, a pioneer in the field of Snowboarding has worked with his wife Claude to improve the eductional and training capabilities of the USASA. He wrote the original USASA Rulebook and the technical manual and co-founded the USASA Trainers, a training division of USASA for coaches, and instructors, judges, technical supervisors.
