Third Pylon (Luxor)

Egypt / Luxor / Luxor
 building, monument, gate, archaeological site

The Third Pylon of the temple of Amun-Re at Karnak was built by Amenhotpe III (c. 1389-1351 BC), who dismantled a number of older monuments for use as filler inside the pylon towers. When the pylon was restored in the early 1900s, the filler blocks were found and used to reconstruct several lost monuments which are now at Karnak's Open Air Museum, including the so-called White Chapel of Senwosret I, shrines of Amenhotpe I, Amenhotpe II, and Hatshepsut (the so-called Red Chapel). The porch preceding the Third Pylon was decorated under Sety I and Ramesses II in the 13th century BC.
