  Originally the selected location for this Walmart was further west on Kings Highway, closer to Fredericksburg downtown, across the current Bottom Dollar and McDonald's. However, the proximity of historic Ferry Farm next to this location stirred much debate and controversy. It was decided that Walmart would not be allowed to build in the original location, and was forced to select the current site as the building location. Recently, there has been talk about this store expanding into a Super Walmart. The downturn of the economy has curtailed that some, and the challenge and protest from environment groups concerned about the Rappahannock River have put this expansion on hold nearly indefinitely.

  went by there a couple of hours ago and it is a supercenter now
