On 4 April 1971, a number of Bangladesh Army officers that had joined the struggle for independence for Bangladesh met in Teliapara Tea Estate. This meeting played a pivotal role in the following 9-month long struggle against the brutal Pakistani Army.

Teliapara was in the hands of the Multi Bahini (Bangladeshi Freedom Fighters) until middle of May. The Pakistani Army had attacked countless times before they could dislodge the tenecious Freedom Fighters. In Teliapara many Freedom Fighters sacrificed their lives for the independence of the country.
