place with historical importance, apartment building
In 1870, Oyster Bay's Roman Catholic parish bought a plot of land on Bayles Hill from Matthew Brady, a devout church member who owned a large farm at Planting Fields. The high-peaked frame building at 97 Summit Street was built as a church that same year at a cost of $6,000. It seated 250 worshippers. Now divided into apartments, this building had been owned at various times by old Oyster Bayites Lewis Waters and Oscar Summers. Oyster Bay's Catholic parish became St. Dominics in 1894 and the impressive granite church atop the hill was finished three years later.
