29 West Main Street. Built by Dr. Ebenezer Seely husband of Phoebe Townsend, a daughter of Samuel Townsend, and one time owner of Raynham Hall. Dr. Seely was well-connected both politically and socially and served as Town of Oyster bay Supervisor. The legend persists that Martin Van Buren, the 8th President of the United States and founder of the Democratic Party was entertained at the Seely home. Purchased and restored in the late 1960's by Mr. and Mrs. W. James Oelsner the Greek Revival house displays a conspicuous and authentic charm reflective of the first half of the 19th century and seen more often these days in Currier and Ives prints than in extant houses.
