Old Courthouse Square (Santa Rosa, California)

USA / California / Santa Rosa / Santa Rosa, California / Mendocino Avenue

This is the old historic centre of Santa Rosa and from the 1850s through the 1960s was the location of the Sonoma County Courthouse. Originally at the corner of 4th St and Mendocino across from the square the courthouse was later placed in the middle of the square in the 1880s. That courthouse was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and replaced with another that was torn down in the 1960s. It is still a significant public gathering place, where people eat lunch, relax, or listen to music or talks.

In the 2010s the square was altered. The big road through the middle was removed and replaces by two short lanes on the East and West that permit a slow clock-wise movement.s
