  • Sonoma County fair is the 2nd largest attendence in the state of California, drawing 2 million visitors each year. The Hall of Flowers exhibits are extensive and exceedingly well designed by all of the local nurseries as well as amateur gardeners. The main attraction is the horse racing, which until the Federal Govt legallized indian casinos, was one of the few legal places to gamble in the state of California. The fairgrounds also hosts the Harvest Fair, which is a huge wine tasting for Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino County wines (making it an International draw). This is the site where the best wines of France were tested against California's best and lost. The event was repeated in France, which was a huge win for the county and embarrassment for French winemakers. Wine is the biggest source of income for Sonoma and Napa counties. The fairgrounds also host rock concerts, rodeos and truck pulls. Additional special events can be scheduled. http://www.sonomacountyfair.com/
  • The wine tasting in Sonoma County was an open wine tasting, making it easy to level charges of bias on the part of the judges. "The Judgment of Paris" in May, 1976, when California wines beat French wines in a "blind" tasting, was in (TA-DA!) Paris, France.
