Chew Bahir

Ethiopia / Southern / Jinka /
 lake, salt lake

Chew Bahir, Amharic: ጨው ባሕር; Chew means 'Salt' and Bāhir means 'Sea', and the combination 'Salt Sea' describes the vast stretch of saline lake-bed located in Southern Ethiopia. It's set at an elevation of 573m (1,880ft) above sea level, and is often dry due to high rate of evaporation, but retains some water year round in the north where a perennial Weito River flows in.
